You are tired, you are emotional and you would actually like to have a very long hibernation… But is this because you are having a dip or are you having a burnout? When do you hit the brakes and know it’s time to get help? Because 1 in 7 employees will experience a burnout and in the event of a burnout, people will spend an average of 189 days at home.
What are the symptoms of a burnout? I had a severe burnout, at one point I didn’t even dare to go outside, but I didn’t see it coming at all. Because a burnout won’t happen to me, I can do anything… Not so.
I had even been to the doctor because I had such a tight feeling in my chest (one of the symptoms, but little did I know). In addition, I was extremely nauseous, on some days I had to run to the toilet several times because I had to throw up (it turned out to be due to the stress). I also regularly started having migraine attacks again, even though I thought I had put that misery behind me after puberty.
After yet another crying fit on the way to the office and a good conversation at home, I came to the conclusion that this could no longer be the case and I went to my doctor. But I could have been there so much sooner, then I might not have been in as deep as I was then. Because just bursting into tears when nothing is wrong when you are on your bike or in the car is of course not normal.
Although you may quickly think that work is the cause of burnout, this does not have to be the case. A burnout can also be caused by private circumstances. The cause can therefore be different for everyone, but the complaints can also be different for everyone.

For example, one burnout patient cannot sleep at all while the other does nothing but sleep. For example, I have had periods where I think I slept 18 hours a day and when I finally got some sleep again, the nerves started. A constant rush that ran through my body, preventing me from sleeping a wink at night. Those same nerves that now warn me when I cross my boundaries and I have to take a step back.
Perhaps you recognize yourself in the things I have described above. That is why you will find the most common symptoms of burnout below. Because it’s better to be there on time! Then you can look for a solution together with your doctor.
