When was the last time you did nothing? Not the last time you unconsciously scrolled through Facebook or watched Netflix after a long day at work. No, when was the last time you were alone and really did nothing?
Almost sounds like something strange, right? In these times where we always have to do more, work harder, work longer. Work, work, work! We always have to do something to stay in the market, a course, a workshop. There is always a to-do list that needs to be completed… And does it work? Does everyone really like this?
Nowadays, doing nothing is linked to being lazy, and lazy really is a dirty word! Nobody wants to be lazy, yuck! Is it strange that you can’t remember the last time you did nothing? The constant flow of information and technology does not help here either. But what if I told you that doing nothing is actually very good for your health? What if I told you that it gives you energy and helps you focus? Below you will find reasons why doing nothing is good for you and how you can add more “nothing” to your life:
Enjoy the moment.
Turn off your phone. The next time you eat your lunch, turn off your phone, put that magazine away and try to simply focus on eating your lunch. Appreciate everything that happens around you, especially the simple things that you quickly take for granted.
Listen to music. Go for a run. Get out into nature. Do what you need to do to remind yourself to live in the moment.
Disconnect
Turn off your phone, turn off your computer and put away your tablet. Might feel a little crazy at first, but enjoy your own company. Appreciate the silence. You don’t always have to be busy, planning or adding or crossing things off your to-do list. Take a deep breath, live and let your thoughts run wild.

Get your priorities straight
You must be very busy all day long doing things that make you happy or that you are really passionate about… right? Find out what really makes you happy and leave out the things that look good on your CV.
Be honest with yourself. Focus on what you really enjoy doing and do it! If you are not genuinely excited about an activity then don’t do it. Why do you plan your agenda full of things that you don’t even really like? Use your time and energy wisely and invest in things that really matter.
Let your batteries run out.
Being surrounded by people all the time takes a lot of time. Add in your family, worries, technology and work and you’re exhausted just thinking about it. So stay home and relax without planning. Look what happens, enjoy doing nothing. Just because it’s possible.
Don’t plan anything
. This might be the hardest thing for you. Give yourself permission from the constant planning. Have faith, there is no point in worrying about things over which you have no influence. You can do your best, but remember that you can’t control everything so let go.
