Donatella Versace’s starting point for Spring 2025 was 1997 and the spring show of Versus , a diffusion line that Donatella designed in her own image.
“I was drawn to the spring of 1997 because it was a joyful moment. In the 90s there was freedom, happiness, not too much thought and a more relaxed attitude towards clothes.”
28 years later, in Milan’s Castello Sforza, Donatella rewrites the old codes and brings updated hits from that collection to the catwalk: knitted tops with wavy patterns, dresses and chainmail skirts with floral prints, and silk bustier dresses.

In addition to zigzags on knitwear, this collection features an updated print of blue and yellow poppies, lemon-colored trouser suits, and lingerie skirts with lace.

The 1997 collection featured a subtle and sophisticated use of color and texture that seemed impossible to replicate. But Donatella pulled it off, as demonstrated by the inspiring mix of prints and textures on the runway.

Overall, the collection, with its childish pastel tones, looks of slip dresses and cardigans, distressed denim, mini-shorts and cheeky shoes (think plastic champagne-glass shoes), was more youthful than sensual.

But what has definitely changed since 1997 is the technology. The glittery skirt, corset, and strapless dress that South African-American model Anok Yai rocked were actually 3D printed. That would have been impossible 28 years ago.
