At Fendi’s first show in 1966, Karl Lagerfeld asked Silvia Venturini Fendi, then a 6-year-old girl, to walk the runway in a riding outfit.
Now, in 2025, Sylvia could not entrust the collection dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the House to anyone (she is still looking for a new creative director), so she took everything into her own hands and did it as a true heir to the dynasty – with great respect for the history of the brand, but with a clear view of the future.

The anniversary show was opened by Silvia’s grandsons, Tazio and Dardo (both also six years old, which is very symbolic), dressed in copies of that very original outfit. From that moment on, the audience was immersed in the exciting atmosphere of an aristocratic, refined, luxurious show that spans several generations of Fendi .
The catwalk featured fur coats, monochrome suits, dresses with curly frills along the hem, and oversized coats paired with massive gold chokers and fur bags.

The shoulders and sleeves of leather jackets and coats were rounded; blouses were adorned with a deep, narrow neckline; trousers were tucked jauntily into high boots; and dresses and coats were generously encrusted with multi-colored stones.

The voluminous knitted hats, decorated with mesh, were a tribute to the founder of the house, Adele: Sylvia said that her grandmother always adorned her face with a veil attached to a chignon. There were also chignons that, according to witnesses, were shaped like a figure eight, as a symbol of infinity.

There was a lot of opulence in the collection, which seemed logical for a show by a 100-year-old Italian house run by three generations of women: leather, fur, cashmere, mohair, gold and precious stones sparkled on the catwalk, literally and figuratively. The zigzag-striped fur and leather pieces, as well as the bomber jacket and red polka-dot dress, earned applause from the audience.

I noticed the delicate lace dresses of the finest workmanship (on some the lace was crocheted from fur strips), the fluffy wave along the hem of the pink skirt, the karakul handbags and the soft dolls that reminded me of that same little girl from 1966.

And, of course, the gorgeous Eva Herzigova in a pleated silk dress with a bow collar and satin boots.

“In the collection I touched on different decades, but I tried to avoid any one in particular… I have great respect for the fact that when something is beautiful, it is always beautiful,” said Sylvia.
If the memories of this show affected Tazio and Dardo as deeply as its 1966 counterpart did their grandmother, then the Fendi clan’s creative lineage must go back many decades.
