Do you sometimes feel like others are having way more sex than you are? You’re not alone, according to research by the BBC . Those who have been in a relationship for years but hear the Tinder stories of a single friend can quickly get the wrong idea of reality. It seems that nowadays, all you have to do is swipe right to have sex, the same day. Social media reinforces this image with Instagram legends like Dan Bilzerian who give the impression that women are there for the taking.
The result is that everyone thinks that others have more sex than they do. When asked how much sex others have, it turns out that the majority of respondents overestimate this, and not by a small amount either.
As part of Ipsos ‘ long-running misconceptions survey, the BCC surveyed people in the UK and the US about the sex lives of others, asking them to guess how often people aged 18 to 29 have sex in a four-week period.

Women have sex often?
Men estimate women’s sex lives to be even worse. Men think young women have an incredible amount of sex, as many as 22 times a month in the UK and 23 times a month in the US. This would mean that the average young woman in both countries has sex every weekday, plus a few extra days. In reality, the number of times sex is much lower. Where does this come from?
According to the research, the misconceptions arise from the way we think but also from what we are told. The survival of our species depends on sex, but because much of this behavior takes place behind closed doors, no one gets a good idea of how it really works. Because no one has access to the real information about the sex lives of others, and has to “rely” on bro-science, a false image of the sex lives of others arises.
All this unreliable information means that everyone has the wrong idea of what the reality is. For example, it seems like sex on the first date has become the standard, but it isn’t . So if you think that others have sex much more often than you, it can be disappointing if you ask for the truth.
