Singles in the Netherlands are happy that there are finally some new options for a date. The same old walks in the park are also getting boring, although meeting up at IKEA is not exactly challenging either. Yes, they really do that: singles meet up at the Swedish furniture store. But what are they especially happy about? The opening of the terraces.
The opening of terraces makes it possible to have a drink again as before , perhaps even with a small snack. It is thanks to this relaxation that singles can date relatively normally in real life again – something they are ready for, according to research by dating app happn, which conducted research among 270 Dutch singles. Yet there is a problem: the singles no longer know how to do it.

Nervous about dating
According to the research, the seduction skills of singles are rather rusty. They want to flirt , but they don’t know how anymore. The thought of a face-to-face meeting alone makes singles shiver, because one third of them are nervous about dating in real life. The Fear of Dating Again is a real fear that they have to deal with. And another 32% are afraid of being intimate with someone again.
With the pandemic (hopefully) coming to an end, singles’ expectations have changed. The past year has given them plenty of time to think about their future – what they want and don’t want. It has made finding a relationship a higher priority. The majority of singles say they want to start looking for a relationship to see where it goes.
Now that the vaccination rate is increasing by the day and the world is slowly starting to open up, singles are also daring to come out of their shells. Three quarters of respondents plan to meet up with a crush on a terrace again as usual. Does that mean the end of walking dates? Not quite, because 62% of singles are keeping their walking dates in reserve – just in case.
