“It would be so nice if something had a meaning for a change.” (Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, 1865)
Maria Grazia Chiuri explored her inner child when creating the Dior Spring 2025 couture collection, which is why the result is “full of joy, dreams and playfulness.”
With A-line miniskirts, mini-crinolines and tiny lace dresses, one can truly imagine little girls playing in the garden in Victorian times.

“For the last six to eight months, I’ve been obsessed with fashion history,” Chiuri said. The collection juxtaposed centuries: 17th-century tailcoat styles, Edwardian shorts and puff sleeves, a 1947 version of Christian Dior’s Bar jacket , and a slew of airy, tiered capes, some of which vaguely resembled paintings by the 20th-century Argentine artist Leonor Fini.

As a point of reference, the designer turned to the A-line silhouette of Yves Saint Laurent, who took over as creative director of Dior after the death of Christian Dior. This silhouette, according to Chiuri, refers to childlike spontaneity: “I discovered that his idea for that collection was children’s clothes on a larger scale.”

Lace crinolines, corsets with tiny loops, thickets of magical flowers falling from skirts, airy clouds of guipure – all this looked like a beautiful fairy tale, in which the main character is, of course, a princess. And even the intricate mohawks, decorated with feathers and flowers, resembled a 2D crown.

Chiuri works in her characteristic color palette – black, white, beige, gray. She generously decorates her outfits with voluminous appliqués, lace, feathers and their imitation. Some dresses look like voluminous airy roses, others – as if assembled from many pointed petals. The looks were complemented by black fishnet knee socks and ballet flats with ties on the leg.
