As children, we all dreamed of becoming adults as soon as possible. When my mother was not at home, I often tried on her dresses and high heels and happily slammed them loudly around the apartment. From a young age, I understood that fashion could transform me into a grown-up lady, and all that was required was to choose the right details.
However, modern fashion seems to be moving in the opposite direction, trying to make children out of us. Otherwise, why would designers create all sorts of accessories that look kitschy, pretentious or just naive?

Bottega Veneta showed soft toy shoes, placed a frog on sandals and attached it as a brooch to a cardigan. And Balmain made every little princess’s dream come true and created accessories in the form of eyeshadow palettes, perfume bottles and lipstick tubes.

High fashion has always served as a form of escape from reality, made us dream, brought joy, even fascinated us – and we could all use a little escapism right now. Perhaps designers are encouraging us to use children’s clothes as a kind of protection from an overly disturbing agenda?
Or… shouldn’t we dig that deep? Maybe this charmingly naive assortment is simply designed to remind us not to take fashion too seriously? What do you think?
And a bonus for parents: now you can try rummaging through your child’s wardrobe for fashionable accessories, rather than the other way around.
