Chanel returned to Paris to show at the Grand Palais, which had been closed for renovations for the past four years. Sunlight streamed through the glass roof, adding extra sparkle to the embroidered tweed suits of the many attendees. They were happy, and apparently unfazed by the empty creative director’s chair, which has recently become the subject of speculation among industry insiders.
The brand’s team did not take risks and followed a proven path – the central place on the catwalk was expectedly taken by tweed products: suits with jackets and vests, skirts and shorts, overalls, trousers, dresses and sundresses.

The collection’s core principles—lightness, airiness, and a hint of ephemerality—were evident in collars made from layers of fluffy feathers, sheer capes, fringe, chiffon inserts, and accent piping.

Tweed was worn not only with romantic blouses made of translucent fabric and white shirts, but also on the naked body. Black velvet ribbons tied into bows served as belts on knitted dresses and fixed weightless capes made of chiffon.

The creative team used pastel colors, checks, stripes, black lace, and also decorated the denim with shiny sequins.

Feathers (or their imitation) covered collars, dress hems, trouser stripes, blouses, and also acted as a print on flowing dresses, trench coats and chiffon capes.

In the center of the palace stood a huge snow-white bird cage with a swing, like in the 1991 Chanel commercial starring Vanessa Paradis. At the end of the show, during the evening looks, Elvis Presley’s granddaughter, American actress Riley Keough, performed the touching Prince song “When Doves Cry” while sitting on this swing.
