Noir, raffia coat and waist emphasis – all about the new Michael Kors spring 2025 collection

Michael Kors’ spring/summer collection was inspired by the new version of the film The Talented Mr. Ripley, which was originally conceived in black and white. The network that showed the series only accepted it in color, but the noir style dominated even in the color version.

The second source of inspiration was the black and white photographs of the rocks and sea of Ischia and Procida, where the designer recently traveled.

However, the collection was not at all noir – such a word simply does not exist in Kors’s design dictionary. His signature style was evident from the first appearances in total black – an urban version of a 1950s swimsuit paired with a pleated skirt, a classic jacket over shorts, cinched with a belt, and a suit vest paired with a long transparent skirt.

Then white appeared on the catwalk, first in the form of small accents, and then in completely white looks.

Inspired by Italian villages and rural landscapes, Kors gave a special place to craftsmanship in the collection, which, however, did not affect his signature style. Almost every look was decorated with raffia – from a lace dress and a knitted skirt to a fur coat knitted entirely from this natural fiber, hats, bags and sandals.

Kors added mustard, caramel, dark chocolate, a complex cool shade of beige, denim and jet black to the black and white palette. He scattered flower gardens across the fabric using appliqués and prints; added just the right amount of shine; insisted on a cinched waist; but left us with the choice of whether to wear heels or not.

Judging by the collection, Kors is in good shape and is bursting with ideas. Of course, all this is within the framework of his “Korsov” classics, without risk, experimentation and creative adventures. I was quite interested in looking at the details of the collection, especially the raffia and floral appliques. And my vote today flies away to shirts with “raised” collars – a cool technique that I appreciated.
