And sometimes these alternatives have existed for much longer, but they are extremely useful in corona times. Watching Netflix together without sitting on each other’s laps has been possible for a long time.

Now that the first virtual dates are over, you might want to watch a movie together. But how? The cinema is closed and starting a Netflix series together on the couch is not really possible. Netflix Party

Are you ready for the next step in your relationship? With Netflix Party, you can watch the same series or movie together in real time, only you do this remotely. Netflix Party is a free Chrome extension that you can install to synchronize the playback of series and movies. As an added bonus, there is also a chat window to chat with each other during the film or series. Here’s what you need to watch Netflix together remotely:

• Both have a Netflix subscription
• Both have a computer or laptop (does not yet work on smartphones)
• Both have the Google Chrome browser installed
• Both have the Netflix Party extension installed

Installing Netflix Party on Chrome is quick and easy . Visit the Netflix Party extension page and tap “Add to Chrome.” Chrome will then ask you if you’d like to add the extension. Tap “Add extension” and you’ll be redirected to the extension’s official website. By now, Netflix Party should already be installed – indicated by the “NP” icon in the address bar – and ready to go.

Ready to get started

Do you both have a visible ‘NP’ icon in the address bar? Then the movie can start. One of you has to go through the following steps to watch Netflix together.

1. In the Google Chrome browser, go to the Netflix website .
2. Log into your account and select the movie or series.
3. Tap the now red ‘NP’ icon and ‘Start the party’.
4. Copy the unique link shown on the screen.
5. Share the link with your loved one to watch Netflix together.

When the other person clicks on the link, they will automatically be taken to the correct Netflix page. The chat is visible on the right. Ready to have your first Netflix date together? Start the video when you are both ready.

No Netflix: The Alternatives

Does one of you not have Netflix? Don’t worry. With Watch2Gether you can watch videos together on YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, Instagram, Facebook and many other social media platforms. It is also easier to use than Netflix Party. Registration is not required and you don’t need to sign up.
