Most people have a love-hate relationship with winter. On the one hand, they find it incredibly cozy when the Christmas lights come out. On the other hand, they prefer not to go out during this season, because they find the low temperatures awful. If you were to ask them to describe their relationship with winter, they would say it is complicated.
Winter dating is a little different than summer dating, thanks to these different attitudes. For example, no one would resist sitting down for a drink on a warm summer day. But going for a walk when it’s freezing outside and icicles are hanging from the gutters? Not everyone is up for that. That makes dating in the winter months different than during the rest of the year.

14 winter date ideas
Since winter isn’t the best time of year to go out, some date ideas just aren’t possible. Or not wanted. After all, swimming is too cold when the mercury drops below zero. And no one wants to go on a hot air balloon ride when it’s freezing outside. So what you can do in the summer usually isn’t possible in the winter.
However, in the months between fall and spring, there are a number of other date ideas that are only possible during that period. Why not consider a winter date – a date that is only possible in winter? Here are fourteen ideas for dates in the cold winter months.
1. Snowman
In the summer it is time to build sandcastles, in the winter we make snowmen. It may seem childish to make a snowman, but there is something romantic about creating something out of nothing.
2. Touched
When you think of typical winter food, you probably think of snert – the green soup that looks more like porridge. Winter is therefore the perfect season to cook snert together. And because snert can only be officially called snert if it has been left overnight, you immediately have a good excuse to see each other again the next day.
3. Winter walk
Even if you don’t consider yourself the outdoorsy type, a winter hike can still be a fun date. Dress warmly with layers and don’t forget your ski socks. You can even bring a coffee pot for a drink break in between.
4. Skating
Skating is harder than it looks. Keeping your balance on a pair of narrow blades is no easy task. It takes a fair amount of experience. Luckily, you have someone with you who can help you: so hold each other’s hands. Be careful, because you are literally on thin ice. You can form a bond if you are both extremely clumsy and help each other get up when you fall – just like in relationships.

6. Winterpicknick
Most people immediately think of a picnic date with sunshine, green grass and a shopping basket. But it can also be done when it is colder outside. Despite the fact that there is no sun to warm you up during this picnic, you can bring warm snacks and drinks to warm you up.
7. Winterbarbecue
We all associate the barbecue with summer. But people also barbecue in the winter, especially those who have a ceramic charcoal barbecue. Whether or not you have a Green Egg, barbecuing in the winter is very cozy. Put on a thick coat and keep yourself warm at the barbecue. Round it off by roasting marshmallows together and making s’mores.
8. Winterborrel
For those who don’t have a barbecue – or don’t have the space for one – the fire basket is an alternative. Drinking with typical winter drinks doesn’t get any better than next to the heat of a fire basket. As for winter drinks, you can get started with mulled wine or a non-alcoholic warm apple punch. Cheers !
