What are the honeymoon periods?
The honeymoon period is the first few weeks after the wedding. These start on the first day after the wedding day and end about a month afterward. During this period, the married couple may not be unnecessarily disturbed by, for example, telemarketers, insurance companies, the national ombudsman and visitors.
It is a time when the newlyweds can fully enjoy each other and especially get used to life together. After a period of organizing and taking everything and everyone into account, this is the ultimate time for a couple to recover and recharge, before real life continues.

Where does the term come from?
The honeymoon literally refers to white bread. The term originated in the 16th century , when white bread was seen as a festive delicacy. Although many people now eat white bread almost every day, things used to be different. White bread was a luxury product. On an ordinary day people mainly ate brown bread and rye bread. White bread was therefore special and only suitable for festive occasions.
A wedding and the time that follows was of course also seen as a festive time. And in the past, white bread was often eaten during that period. That all sounds pretty logical, right?

How official is the honeymoon?
Although there are no official rules for it, most people take the period after marriage quite seriously. It is generally accepted that a newlywed couple should not be bothered unnecessarily during this period.
Because times change and life is fast, busy and quite chaotic these days, many couples protect themselves by going on a honeymoon together during the first few weeks after the wedding. This way they are really away from everything and everyone and there is less chance that they will be disturbed by people dropping by uninvited or companies calling continuously.

How long does it take?
The honeymoon period lasts four to six weeks on average. It varies per couple and depends on how long you want to take your time or go on honeymoon. You also need to have enough vacation days to be able to enjoy it. Some couples go back to work a few days after the wedding, sometimes that is simply unavoidable. Other couples take a vacation and go to a romantic, tropical island together to enjoy each other to the fullest.
Every newlywed couple completes this period as they can and want. When the honeymoon period is over, it is often suggested that things will no longer be so easy. This is because real life then has to be resumed.
What is the use of this period?
Why did they ever decide to introduce the honeymoon period? First of all, it is nice to be free for a while. Even the Bible says that a newly married couple should be left alone. In the past, men were not allowed to go to war during this period, so that they could make their wives happy at home.
But in addition to the well-deserved rest, it is also a great moment to get to know each other even better, look back on the big day together and make great plans for the future. This way you start off well together and create beautiful memories that you can look back on later (perhaps in more difficult times) and remember why you chose each other.

What about a honeymoon?
Where we speak of a honeymoon, in English we speak of a honeymoon when it comes to the period after the wedding. This English term refers mainly to the sweet, sweet and romantic first month of marriage. It does not necessarily have to refer to a honeymoon.
Even if you decide not to go on holiday together or take a trip after the wedding, you are still in the honeymoon phase, according to the British and Americans. This period is considered the happiest month, which is why it is also called a month as sweet as honey .
In addition, the moon has different phases and ‘shrinks’ and grows, as it were, over and over again. According to many, this also happens with marriage.
