You had a burnout, which was tough, but you finally felt that you had overcome your burnout. But then, suddenly you notice that those nerves are running through your body again. That you are very tired again, but you can no longer sleep well. A relapse. The first? Or already the fourth? How is it possible that we relapse after a burnout?
Before you burn out, your body sends out signals that things cannot continue like this. For example, you suffer from headaches, insomnia, nerves, fear, restlessness, feel depressed or have fits of crying. But tough guy that you are, you just kept going. On until you literally dropped. Still, it’s not wise to just keep going. It is also not wise to ignore your body’s signals.

You have been out of action for a while and are now happy that you can resume your normal life. You can work again, meet up with friends and have time for your partner and children again. So you throw yourself into it again, because the sun has finally started to shine again and you can enjoy yourself again. But maybe this ‘enjoyment’ is a bit too much for you. Your body may already be giving you small signals. You sleep restlessly again, notice that you get tired quickly, and occasionally suffer from physical complaints again. But yes, you are busy and you don’t have time to think about that at all. You have some catching up to do!
No, you have nothing to catch up on. You actually have to be very careful. You have overcome your burnout, but that does not mean you have to get back to your old rhythm. Because that old rhythm caused you to burn out in the first place. So listen to your body now, get in touch with your feelings. Try to learn from your burnout instead of fighting it.

Get to know your body’s signals and limits . If your body feels tired, give in to it. If your head is full, make sure you take the time to empty it again. Feel your nerves rising, go for a run or meditate. But listen to the signals your body gives you.
You may want to be the person you were before you burned out, but you are no longer that person. You probably never were that person, because you had a burnout for a reason. Accept this. Acceptance is so important. Accept that you cannot stretch your body endlessly. Be kind to yourself, cherish yourself and take care of your body.
