What does your timeline look like when you open your favorite dating app ? Are the faces always the same and do you get a sense of déjà vu when you start swiping? And when you look at your inbox, are they all matches that didn’t lead to anything? It’s no surprise if this is typical of your dating experience, because various studies show that not all singles have the intention to date and find romance .
While dating apps are supposed to help you find your perfect match, the daily grind of dating shows that it’s not an easy quest. The problem? Not all singles have the same expectations. Some use the apps for entertainment, others for distraction, and every once in a while, we find someone who wants to find their true love. Thanks to these often conflicting intentions, singles have a hard time finding someone with the same expectations in love, according to new research from dating site Lexa .
In order to adapt the dating app to the wishes of singles, Lexa regularly conducts research into the motivations, habits and goals of Dutch singles. It recently did so again with a survey among 1,002 Dutch singles. The research shows that 88% of singles have difficulty finding a match with the same expectations.

More selective dating
Thanks to the mismatch of intentions, singles have become more selective in their dating. They have become picky and are less likely to meet up with their matches, according to Lexa. 80% of singles indicate that they now really want to take the time to get to know each other, and have longer chat conversations.
Women are slightly more cautious than men when it comes to selecting who to go on a date with. 72% of men prefer to meet in person as soon as possible after a pleasant conversation , while only 62% of women say this. For them, it is more important to first get clarity about the other person’s intentions before considering a first date – 89% of women say this compared to 77% of men.
