If we are not in balance, there is a good chance that we will just keep going, without thinking about what we are doing. This mainly happens when we are stressed. Both work-wise and emotionally. If we don’t do anything about this stress, there is a good chance that it will eventually end up as a burnout. And that is precisely why it is important to take a good look at yourself when you are so stressed.
If you suffer from a lot of stress, you may experience panic attacks, feel absent, frustrated or suffer from mood swings. If you ignore these signals, things can go one step further. Your body is actually warning you to slow down, so listen to that! The signals can look like this:
1. You Have Dreams Where You Are Looking For Something And Can’t Find It
Dreams where you are trying to find something are often an indication that you need to slow down and find time to rest. It is also a reflection of the fact that you are doing too much and you may find it difficult to stay on track. A dream like this can also indicate that you are overwhelmed and that you are taking on too much.
2. You stub your toe or have other clumsy accidents.
If the accidents are easily preventable, it might be time to take it easy. It can also indicate that you need to be less hurried and do things with more attention.
3. You forget appointments
If you forget appointments or fail to fulfill obligations, it is also time to check whether you are not too busy. Of course, it’s not surprising to forget something every now and then, but if this happens constantly, or with things that are really important, it could be a signal that you need to slow down.

4. You Feel Overwhelmed and Unappreciated
When you say yes to everything, it can be hard to stop. But always saying yes to everything and trying to please others can leave you feeling undervalued and overwhelmed. If you feel this way, it’s important to take a good look at your calendar to schedule some me-time. Sometimes it is actually good to say ‘no’.
5. You can’t really enjoy yourself anymore.
The things that used to give you energy now have virtually no effect on you. If you used to enjoy cooking, for example, but now you prefer to take away because you can’t bring yourself to do it. Has the energy and enthusiasm for this disappeared? Then it may be time to recharge your battery. And do that by taking it a bit easier.
If you are not feeling well and recognize these points, it is important to really slow down. Skip some appointments, make your agenda a bit empty and make sure you have some extra me-time in the near future!
