Snow is great and winter is romantic. But everyone knows that summer is the best time of the year. The days are longer, the layers are kept to a minimum and everyone is excited about it all – including dating. But what can we expect from this summer? Will it be the slutty summer that was left behind last year or will it be more of a summer of love ?
Dating app happn recently conducted research among 500 singles to find out the summer dating trends. We have listed five of these dating trends for you.
1. Dawn dating
Do you always need an alarm clock that you can snooze multiple times? Or do you not even set an alarm clock? Regardless of your sleep pattern: dating in the morning – also known as dawn dating – is becoming increasingly popular globally. In the Netherlands, 1 in 5 singles (21%) has already been on such a morning date, according to the research, and it seems that this number will increase rapidly. 38% of women are open to dawn dating , while a whopping 51% of men are interested in it.

2. Sexploration
According to the survey, it promises to be a spicy summer. Some 60% of respondents indicate that they want to try new things in the bedroom. And we’re not just talking about penetration, because 92% of singles believe that sex is much more than penis-in-vagina sex . More than 4 out of 5 women also say that the female orgasm deserves more attention. And a similar percentage of men completely agree.

3. Familiar dating
Previous research shows that many relationships originally start in the form of a friendship. Which friend or girlfriend could you see in a different light? According to the happn research, 1 in 3 Dutch singles has already fallen in love with someone they have known for a while. Who would you like to date ‘familiar’, as it is also called?

4. Love without limits
Now that the annual exodus to warm countries has begun again, we can count on a lot of holiday romances to emerge. According to the research, more than half of singles (56%) have found love abroad. And now that travel restrictions have almost disappeared, it is obvious that holiday romances are back in full force.
5. Metaverse dating
Whether it’s summer or not, in the ‘metaverse’ you’ll always stay dry. Nearly 3 in 10 singles (28%) say they’re open to meeting new people in the new digital reality . But not everyone is looking forward to it, it turns out, because a larger percentage of singles (36%) are not interested in dating in the metaverse. The same percentage don’t know yet.
