Next Sunday is Valentine’s Day . The annual festival – as we might call it – is the perfect time to celebrate love, friendship and admiration. Every year on February 14, people around the world celebrate the day by sending messages of love and affection to their partners and secret crushes. And it’s not just for existing connections: 40% of singles believe Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to start a new relationship. This is one of the revelations by dating app Plenty of Fish, which conducted a survey of 2,000 singles.

Optimism prevails
New insights from the dating app show that singles are feeling pretty optimistic about dating this year. While their social lives aren’t exactly rosy at the moment, they seem to be feeling confident about the near future. More than half of the singles surveyed, 57% to be exact, believe they ’ll find the one , and over 40% think Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to start a new relationship.
Last year, the app also conducted research into the Valentine’s Day issues of singles. It turned out that singles that 43% of singles experience the most pressure on Valentine’s Day of all holidays (including Christmas). And 1 in 5 even wanted the day of love to be abolished. But times are changing, as the recent research shows.

Less pressure
Singles are breathing a sigh of relief this Valentine’s Day: 70% of them feel less pressure to make big plans for Valentine’s Day. With the measures still in place, they are opting for quiet activities. Almost 50% of millennials plan to celebrate the day of love at home with their ‘quaran-team’, with housemates, family and friends. For other singles, a virtual date is one of the top activities for Valentine’s Day or meeting in a safe environment such as outside (more than 50%).
A year of long -distance dating has caused singles to rethink their dating perspectives and priorities. Today’s singles have a different mindset, including:
Small gestures, big impact
Things that were once taken for granted are now much more important. 58% say romantic gestures are more important to them now than they were pre-pandemic. More than a third say they’re most looking forward to holding hands, sharing first kisses and sharing flirty smiles across the room (without a mask) once the pandemic is over.

Exes have a chance
With plenty of time to reflect on the past year, nearly two-thirds of singles are feeling more open-minded about their dating lives. They’re even willing to date someone they previously overlooked, and 55% would consider reuniting with an ex once life returns to normal.

The return of humanity
According to the survey, singles are so optimistic that frustrating dating patterns, including ghosting , will come to an end . 39% of singles think people will be less likely to ghost after the pandemic.
Vaccine as a dealbreaker
With the introduction of the corona vaccines, we are all looking forward to a renewed freedom. Singles want nothing more than to be able to date normally again. In fact, more than half of singles reject a potential partner if they have no intention of getting vaccinated.
