More than a third of singles don’t want to be single on Valentine’s Day. This and more is revealed in the ‘Love in Lockdown’ research from Spark Networks, the company behind a number of major dating apps. Under the name ‘Love in Lockdown’, the company collected data on dating during the pandemic.
Since a party like Spark Networks has a huge amount of data about singles, they can confirm that social distancing increases the need for social connections. According to the research, singles are even more motivated than ever to find a partner.
According to data from Zoosk, one of the apps from Spark Networks, 51% of singles say that social distancing has made them more motivated to find a partner. In fact, 20% of singles say that “finding a partner” is their number one resolution for 2021. And with the “day of love” just around the corner, it’s worth noting that 38% of singles don’t want to be single on Valentine’s Day.
Looking at the rest of the research findings, it’s no surprise that ‘Dating Sunday’ – aka the busiest dating day of the year – also saw peak traffic on apps like Zoosk, with 25% more messages sent on this one day in 2021 than on a normal day.

Humor remains important
According to data from EliteSingles, another app from Spark Networks, the lockdowns do create an opportunity to find connection. Dating profiles with phrases like “work from home” or “home office” receive 85% more messages than the average dating profile . A percentage that could likely be boosted even further if it were stated with a humorous undertone. Because for EliteSingles, humor is even more important now than it was pre-pandemic.
Despite everything that has happened in the past 12 months, it is vital to maintain a sense of humor. This is evident when we look at the statistics:
- 92% of singles say they are more attracted to people who can make them laugh.
- 81% of singles say they are more attracted to someone who laughs at their jokes.
- 96% of singles say a shared sense of humor is essential in a relationship.
The data from the ‘Love in Lockdown’ survey shows that singles are not giving up. The pandemic is not stopping them from finding love. In fact, they want it more than ever.
