As the world’s largest dating app, Tinder has a unique understanding of what’s going on with today’s singles. Every year, the dating app publishes a report on the latest developments. From new relationship labels and stances on social issues to down-to-earth dating trends and the most used emojis, here are the ten latest trends on Tinder.
1. The situationship is a valid relationship status
More than a hookup, but not a traditional relationship, the situationship has taken on a life of its own. Tinder saw a 49% increase in users adding the term “situationship” to their bios. According to young singles, they prefer the situationship as a way to have a less pressured relationship.

2. Positivity
Originally known as the parking symbol, ️ is now more than just an emoji to discuss a parking spot. The emoji has come to symbolize keeping it real, and only in a good way . According to Tinder, it was the number one trending emoji worldwide on the dating app.
3. The dinner date is no longer popular
Tinder even says that the dinner date could soon be a thing of the past. The creative date activities we’ve learned during the pandemic are here to stay. Mentions of “picnics” (43%), “mini golf” (56%) and “drive-in” in Tinder bios have all increased over the past year, suggesting that singles are doing more than just wining and dining these days. Other adventurous activities like camping, BBQs, trying new things and street food all made it into the top ten trending global interests on Tinder.

4. Singles more often date sober
More singles are raising their glasses on sober dates. Alcohol-free dates have become a way for singles to be more authentic on dates. Over 25% of young singles surveyed on Tinder say they drink less on dates compared to last year. When describing their drinking habits, 72% of users say they don’t drink or only drink occasionally. Mentions of the and emojis decreased by 40% and 25% respectively compared to last year.
5. Being funny wins the dating game
A sense of humor is what singles look for most in a potential match’s profile. 73% of young singles surveyed say they’re looking for someone who’s clear about what they want and has good hygiene. When asked what the most important traits are in a potential date, loyalty (79%), respect (78%) and open-mindedness (61%) were ranked higher only than looks (56%).
6. Positions on social issues count
Three quarters (75%) of singles were looking for a match that respected or invested in social issues. One example of this was support for Ukraine, which at one point saw the Ukrainian flag make it into the app’s top ten trending emojis.

7. Old is new
Young singles are turning to the ’90s for inspiration. The fastest growing interests on Tinder were things from the past like ’90s kid, anime and sneakers. Even everyone’s favorite “new” song, Kate Bush’s ” Running Up That Hill ” made a comeback, hitting the top 10 Spotify Anthems on Tinder profiles. That’s why Tinder introduced Blind Date , a blind dating feature that was used an average of 200,000 times per day.

8. Bad relationship traits are noticed
The ( red flag ) and gaslighting emojis were trending on Tinder for a reason. Toxic relationships aren’t new, but thanks to all the psychoanalysis tips on social media, modern singles are more informed. They know what’s good, what’s not, and are more likely to recognize when behavior is off. More than half (58%) of singles surveyed say they can tell the difference between a red and a green flag when dating .

9. Singles discover more of the world
In revenge for all that was done to them during the pandemic, singles are now traveling more often to other locations. At least on the Tinder app, with the Passport feature . On average, young singles used the Tinder Passport feature nine times per month.
10. Zodiac signs remain in
In 2022, singles looked to the stars for guidance in their lives. Zodiac signs were the most popular type description added to Tinder profiles, surpassing smoking preferences, pets , and diet. Leo, Scorpio, and Cancer were the most common signs on Tinder profiles.
