Singles agree: corona is dramatic for their dating life. This is evident from the latest research by dating app Lexa. Is it surprising? Not really. But it is confirmation that it has been an exceptionally tough year for the singles among us.
It is therefore not surprising that they feel frustrated about the current situation. They want to meet other singles again, so they log in to a dating app more often and some of them cannot resist not adhering to the measures.

Singles are tired of corona
According to Lexa ‘s research , which compares the current situation with that of a year ago, singles are corona-tired. Although it is not only singles who feel corona-tired, it is common knowledge that those who live alone suffer the most. This leads to singles having a fairly clear opinion about the corona crisis: 59% think the current corona situation is the worst thing that can happen to a single.
Last April, when the corona measures had just been announced, the mood of singles was very different. At that time, 81% of singles described their mood as positive. After a disastrous corona year, it appears that their spirits have dropped a little more, because the percentage of positively inclined singles has now dropped to 71%.
A quarter of singles are frustrated by the current corona situation. Not being able to meet new people is a big problem for them. Of the 1,883 respondents, 64% indicate that this is what they miss the most. Last year, the counter was ‘only’ at 54%, although this percentage from last year also shows how much they miss social contacts.

It’s still possible, but it’s different
It will not have escaped anyone’s notice that dating in general has changed completely in the past year. It is only logical that dating now takes place – almost entirely – in the virtual world. But that does not stop singles from writing their own love story.
The research shows that singles are using a dating site or app more often than before. More than a third indicate this. On Dating Sunday (the first Sunday of the year), Lexa saw an increase in activity of no less than 34% compared to the same day in 2020. On that day, a third of all members were online .
The fact that meeting up is no longer as easy as it used to be has also led to singles thinking about what they really want. Many singles (36%) are now taking more time to think about their lives and priorities, while 1 in 5 respondents indicate that corona made them realize that they are looking for something serious . And because the pressure to meet up is now much less than before, 41% of them think that the current situation offers an excellent opportunity to get to know other singles better.

Different dates than before
The personal meeting has also been subject to change. Where having a drink was a popular way to meet in the pre-corona era, this has now made way for virtual dating or walking in the park at an appropriate distance. But not everyone adhered to the rules so strictly, the research shows. 1 in 4 broke the imposed rules to go on a date.
