There are few things in life that scare men more than the first signs of aging. While discovering the first gray hairs can cause a temporary heart rhythm disturbance, there is something that scares men even more: losing their hair. It is something that some men constantly fear, because their self-image is tied to the blow-dried, wavy hair on their heads.
Losing your first hairs equals losing your self-confidence. When men look in the mirror and see the first signs of baldness, they are likely to sit on the floor with their hands in their (still) thick hair – thinking about life after their sexy fauxhawk .
Men associate their attractiveness with their hair and losing it means that attractiveness drastically stagnates. Or so they think. But is that true? Is it really necessary to wear a hat in photos and a cap in everyday life? All to hide the painful hair loss?

Bald men in the dating world
To find out, the German MySpring conducted a study. They wanted to know how bald men are perceived in the dating world. Using a survey, they first had 2,500 men and women anonymously give their opinion. And the results say that in the eyes of a quarter of the respondents, bald men are more masculine, dominant, trustworthy, experienced or successful than men with hair.
Since this is merely a theoretical question, the experiment was moved to reality. And where better to test this than on a platform where appearance is key? For the ultimate baldness test, they used Tinder as the place to measure the difference in hair. How are bald men judged against their hairy counterparts – by men and women?

Two men, one difference
For the study, two identical men were presented to the users of the dating app. However, there was one difference: one is bald and the other has hair. A profile was created for both test subjects, both named Christian (29 years old). For 10 days, Christian swiped right 100 times every day on both men and women of all ages. The result of this swipe experiment shows what the effect of hair is.

With and without her results
Since Christian is not an ugly sight with or without his head hair, there was no shortage of matches. Both versions of Christian performed quite well in terms of matches and messages. In fact, the total number of matches between both versions shows no significant difference between the two hairstyles. You would think that there would be no difference between hair and no hair, but the difference is in the details.
It turns out that bald Christian is more interested in men than average. It was mainly men who were looking for men who were most interested in getting to know bald Christian. On the other hand, bald Christian has a much harder time attracting the attention of women.
Unlike the Christian with hair, the bald version did not have 254 matches with women, but only 30 matches. In contrast, the bald Christian did have 335 matches with men, a number that the Christian with hair can only dream of. Because Christian with hair only had 140 matches with men.
