We must perform, excel, be successful. The pressure to be above average, to be able to do everything and keep all the balls high, is high. But we simply can’t all be the best. There is always someone better at something and this is fine and even very normal. But if it’s normal, why are we so hard on ourselves? Not necessary and especially a shame, because the only thing that really gets you further is self-compassion.
1. The illusion of perfection
The ideal image in which successful people succeed in all areas of their lives is not realistic. It’s not real and if you wanted to comply, it would put enormous pressure on your shoulders. It is important to realize that perfection is not attainable; the pursuit of perfection can lead to unnecessary stress and self-criticism, which only makes your ideal image drift further away.
2. The comparison with others
When you keep comparing yourself to others, this ultimately makes you feel inferior. Precisely because there is always someone better, smarter or prettier, it is so important to realize that everyone is different and unique. Comparing absolutely does not do justice to the differences that make us so beautiful.

3. Embracing humanity
It is normal to have limitations and not be able to do everything perfectly. When we embrace being human we can accept our shortcomings and understand that failure is part of our learning process. It makes us authentic and human.
4. The importance of self-compassion
Self-compassion is the key to breaking the cycle of self-criticism. Instead of punishing ourselves for what we cannot achieve, it is important to have love and understanding for ourselves. Self-compassion enables us to deal with challenges and setbacks with more resilience.
5. Setting realistic goals
Instead of striving for unattainable perfection, it is valuable to set realistic goals that match your capabilities and values. This means recognizing what is important to you and focusing on goals that are meaningful to you.

6. Finding Balance
Wanting to be the best is commendable, but it’s important to find a healthy balance. It is not necessary to be able to do everything. It is more valuable to pay attention to what is really important.
Stay true to yourself and don’t be driven mad by the ideal image that others seem(!) to have achieved. Set realistic goals and think about yourself, be kind to yourself and take care of yourself. It’s time to give yourself permission to be human and focus on what really matters.
