1. Take regular breaks. This sounds so logical, but when you are extremely busy, the last thing on your mind is taking a break. But take a 5-minute break every hour. Get some water, do 10 jumping jacks and stretch yourself. Don’t skip your lunch break either, try to take a walk if possible. The fresh air and some exercise do wonders for your mind and body.
2. Which brings us to the second point: provide plenty of fresh air and sunlight. This is especially important during the dark months. Spending time outside breaks the routine and reconnects us with nature. If possible, try to cycle or walk to work. Should you go by car or bus? Then get out a little earlier so that you still have to walk 15 minutes to work. Grab an umbrella when it rains and dress extra warmly when it’s cold. The weather is no excuse when it comes to your health.
3. Meditate. Meditation really helped me through my burnout and depression. Try to schedule at least 10 minutes of meditation time every day. Meditation doesn’t have to be difficult, there are plenty of apps you can download on your phone that will help you meditate. By consciously taking a break, our stress reduces significantly and feelings of fatigue gradually decrease.
4. Keep in touch with people. If you’re exhausted, you probably don’t feel like being social anymore. But contact with friends and family is important, it is good for our mood and it gives us energy. Have a cup of tea with your girlfriend or take a walk with your mother and enjoy their company.

5. Get enough sleep. A good night’s sleep is extremely important when you feel so tired. Our bodies literally recharge after a good night’s sleep. Make getting enough sleep a priority. Don’t work too long in the evening, be strict with yourself (even if you watch an exciting series) and go to bed on time. Dim the lights in the living room an hour before you go to sleep, don’t look at your smartphone or laptop (because of the blue light) and have a cup of chamomile tea. Make going to bed a fixed ritual and don’t underestimate this ritual!
6. Set boundaries. As mentioned, human contact is important, but don’t overdo it. If you feel that you are tired, it is okay to cancel an appointment, you have to think about yourself now! Take the evenings so you can relax. And stop planning your weekends. Take a bike ride or walk on Saturday and keep your days calm. Of course there is a children’s birthday or other obligation every weekend, but dare to say no. Take the time to recover from a busy week.
7. Don’t fill, but feed. Nourish your body, give it the fuel it needs to function and don’t fill it with junk that will only make you feel worse. It doesn’t have to be difficult. An apple and a banana a day can do a lot of good. Replace white bread with whole wheat for sufficient fiber and do your shopping for dinner when you still have some energy left. Your body reacts more strongly than you think to the food you take.
8. Move. Exercise even when you are tired, especially when you are tired. If you notice that you can no longer keep your eyes open and you have to drag yourself to that party or that you keep yourself awake with coffee to finish your work, then it is time to exercise. Cancel that party and take a walk, don’t overwork yourself and go for a run! Your body is much more important than any appointment or assignment, realize this! Exercise is good for body and mind and promotes sleep, which is very important when you feel so tired.
